Stefan Meyer and Rob Globke had two goals each tonight to lead the Rochester Americans to a 5-4 victory over the Rockford IceHogs. These were goals number five and six for Meyer and two and three for Globke. Meyer also had an assist in the game.
The Amerks came out flying tonight in the first period. With two goals put up by Globke and one by Meyer in the first ten minutes of play. Although, the Hogs were right on their tails with two goals also scored in the first period.
In the second period, the Amerks once again came out guns blazing with another goal from Meyer at 7:26 on the power play. Anthony Stewart came through with a goal at 13:10 to put the Amerks on top 5-2 at the end of the second.
It wouldn’t be an Amerks’ game if the third period wasn’t stressful. Only 30 seconds into the period, the IceHogs scored their 3rd goal. Then with Rob Globke in the penalty box, they scored again at 11:40 to bring the game within one.
The Amerks were able to hold on for the win with the help of David Shantz. Shantz saved 31 of 35 shots in his first win of the season. This is the 4th game in a row that the Amerks have been outshot by at least ten.
Andrej Sekera was a welcome addition to an ailing Rochester defense. With his return after an 11 game stay with the Buffalo Sabres, he got an assist on the first goal of the game.
Anthony Stewart tallied one goal and one assist in the game (5,5). Mark Mancari keeps racking up assists with two more tonight (his 12th and 13th for the season).
Mike Funk may return to the lineup on Wed. night against the Manitoba Moose at the Blue Cross Arena.ÂÂ
Wednesday’s game starts at 7:05 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280, whtk.com and B2 networks.
