The Rochester Americans finally ended their five games in six nights road trip Sunday when they defeated the Peoria Rivermen by the final score of 4-2. Tyler Plante got his third win of the season making 34 saves in net.
The Amerks will have a much deserved day off on Monday as they return back to Rochester before playing back at home on Wednesday night against the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Had a busy night tonight so I’m just going to be posting notes taken during the game:
Mike Caruso the only healthy scratch.
The Amerks have scored short handed goals in the last four games!
Manny Legace not starting in goal, the lord smiles down on us. Tyler Plante in goal for the Amerks…a deserved start, he kept the Amerks in the game on Saturday against Rockford.
Goal given up 40 seconds into the game. Becoming a habit to give up a goal within the first two minutes of the game. Has happened in the last 4 games.
Janis Sprukts scores! Kept driving it in when rebounds came up. MacDonald and Meyer assists. Sprukts has three goals since returning from Latvia. 15th goal for Janis. 31st point. 1-1
Flick gets two minutes for high sticking.
Amerks not looking as tired as they should. This is their 5th game in 6 nights. All of which have had travel between them. They haven’t had more than 5 hours of rest on any given day.
Last night they didn’t leave Rockford until at least 11pm, who knows when they got into Peoria only to have to get to rink to start the game by 3:00pm.
Penalty killed off. Plante made some great saves.
Duco had a HUGE open ice hit on Neilson.
Frasier attacks Collins, probably thinking it was Collins who made the hit. All he clearly knew is that it was someone with red hair. Collins held on and didn’t get his butt handed to him. Frasier is FAR bigger than Collins…and knows how to fight.
ROCHESTER SCORES ON THE PP!!! Rory Fitzpatrick takes a shot from the point that somehow sneaks in. Assists to Repik, Brine. 2-1
Peoria on the PP. Tyler was pushed down in front of the net when many shots were being taken. Matthias steals it right out of the pile and takes it down the ice.
Emmerson vs Neilson – Emmerson KILLS him. Nailed Neilson with a couple of great right hooks. Laid him right out.
Jordan Henry is making big hits today. He has put a stop to at least 3 plays so far in this game by making a big hit. That is the Henry I remember from the end of last year.
Peoria on the PP. The Rivermen scored, but it was waved off because the whistle had already blown. Penalty to Stastny for cross checking in front of the net, ending their powerplay opportunity.
The refs are letting just about everything go in front of the net. Tyler has been plowed over at least 4 times in this game. No calls at all.
The Amerks are doing very well keeping the puck in the zone tonight…something they have had a lot of problems with all season.
Emmerson takes a rare MINOR penalty for hooking. Amerks fighting extremely hard in this penalty kill. They are really taking on the Rivermen, but having trouble getting it down the ice. Gelech looks extremely good on the Penalty Kill. Penalty ends, nothing changes.
Repik makes a PERFECT pass across the goal mouth to Jacob Micflikier…second assist to Stefan Meyer 3-1.
Jordan Henry blocked a shot with his ankle. Wobbles off the ice. Looks like he is in some real pain.
Tyler makes a huge save. Pins his back to the post and lays across the goal line.
Jordan Henry is back on the ice…not dead.
Jordan Henry is the defenseman of the game for sure. He has blocked many good shots today and has been a hitting machine.
Rivermen scored after Plante was riffled with about ten quick shots. Game is 3-2 with 48 seconds left in the game.
Repik empty net…amerks win 4-2.
Game ended with some great penalty killing by the Amerks stopping the Rivermen on eight opportunities!
