The Rochester Americans announced on Thursday that they signed forward Brett Parnham to an amateur tryout. Parnham just completed his fourth season with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League where he played in 212 games. During that time Parnham recored 106 goals and 89 assists. Of those 106 goals he scored 50 of them during the season that just ended and did so in 60 games played.
Parnham is only listed at 5′ 8″ and 180lbs which is why he was passed over in the NHL draft. He attended rookie camp with the Tampa Bay Lightning last season but was not able to earn a roster spot.
Peter DeBoer, head coach of the Florida Panthers, is part of the ownership group of the Oshawa Generals which would explain him coming to Rochester first over anyone else. I think it’s safe to say DeBoer mentioned the name.
He’s coming off of a groin injury but was practicing with the Amerks on Thursday morning and expected to play on Friday night in Syracuse. He’ll be wearing #27 when he puts on his jersey. Peter Aston is also a former Oshawa General.
