Rochester Americans and Knighthawks Owner Curt Styres has donated five buses to transport Knighthawk lacrosse fans to New York City on Friday May 1st to support the ‘Hawks in their first round playoff game against the New York Titans.
What’s the catch? You just have to buy a $10 ticket. That’s it. $10 will get you a bus ride to New York City to watch the Knighthawks at the legendary Madison Square Garden. Along with the bus trip you also get a t-shirt as well! This sounds like a Billy May’s infomercial for something that’s too good to be true but it isn’t.
This is one dedicated and devoted owner. I’m going to be doing everything I can to try and get out of work on Friday. I hope that 247 other people can do the same as well.
Here’s the rest of the details from the Knighthawks Press Release:
(4/24/2009)  (Rochester, April 24)… The Rochester Knighthawks will be bringing “Teal A-peel†to the Big Apple on Friday, May 1st. Knighthawk fans can join the party and travel to New York for FREE on five buses donated by Knighthawks owner Curt Styres. The East Division Semifinal Playoff Game against the New York Titans is a 7:30 p.m. faceoff at Madison Square Garden.
“We have taken fan buses before to support our favorite local lacrosse team. In Game 7 of the 2004 Ontario Junior ‘A’ championship we took 11 bus loads of Six Nations Arrows fans to Whitby, Ontario,†said Styres. “The arena was filled to capacity and we had more fans than the home team. We had a sea of orange in the rink and some of the hometown Whitby fans couldn’t get in as they were turned away at the door. We won the game and are hoping for the same results in New York City.â€
That night, Six Nations defeated the Whitby Warriors 10-6 at the Iroquois Park Sports Complex with 600 Arrows’ fans in attendance. With the road win, Six Nations advanced to the Junior “A†National Championships of Canada, the Minto Cup.
Now the fans of Rochester have a chance to take over a visiting arena because of the generosity of Styres. The cost of the transportation is FREE for all fans that want to hop on the buses at the Fairport Park and Ride (located next to St. John Fisher College). Call the Knighthawks Office at (585) 454-5335 for more details.
Bus travelers will also receive a FREE teal Knighthawks T-shirt to wear to the game, courtesy of the Democrat & Chronicle and Invisible Fence. The only cost is the $10 game ticket and canned goods, which will be donated to a local charity by the Amerks and Knighthawks Charitable Foundation.
