Rochester Americans goalie Tyler Plante became involved in a rare goalie fight on Saturday night vs Tim Spencer of the Binghamton Senators. If you watch at the beginning of the clip you’ll see Tim Spencer try and take a run at Clay Wilson on the back boards. As Spencer skated past the left hand side of the net you’ll see Plantes’ stick oh so gently hang loose and hit Spencer as he skated by. Whether or not he intentionally tried to give Spencer a butt end is up for debate.
(weekend recap in links is below the video)
Apparently Plante shared a few words after Spencer had completely missed Wilson along the back boards. You can barely see Spencer turn and skate towards Plante as the play comes down the ice. Clay Wilson should have found a way to jump in and help his goalie. Jimmy Bonneau was quick into the mix and whether or not he was on the ice at the time or part of a “line change” is something that will probably be reviewed by the league.
I’d say Plante stood up for himself pretty well against known tough guy Tim Spencer.

The Amerks weekend started on Friday night against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The Amerks got out to an early 4-0 lead but as they coasted through the 2nd and 3rd periods the Pens scored three goals. Amerks barely held on to a 4-3 win. (recap here)

The team has only lost three games this season and all three games they’ve lost they have lost big. A good way to lose I guess. On the road in Binghamton the Amerks were shutout for the first time this season, final score had the B-Sens win 5-0. Amerks highlight of the game is the video above. (recap here)
Sunday November 29, 2009
The Amerks are still undefeated this season in regulation when they score first in a game. An early 3-0 lead was the key on Sunday on the road in Syracuse. The Crunch were able to score four goals of their own but not enough to cover the seven scored by Rochester. Jamie Johnson had 2G+1A.. Chris Taylor had 1G+2A.. The Crunch talked some trash (read here) but in the end the Amerks had the last laugh winning their sixth game against the Crunch this season. (game recap here – Kevin O’s blog)
Winning 2 out of 3 over a weekend is good. The games may not have been pretty at times but the team found ways to win and also found ways to lose.
If Bonneau gets any follow up disciplinary action at least the team has James DeLory available to step in and get some ice time.
Amerks are flying to Manitoba this morning as they get prepared for games Tuesday and Wednesday against the Moose. They’ll have off on Thursday and Friday before playing the Abbotsford Heat next Saturday and Sunday.
