This big news of the afternoon is that Ales Kotalik and Shaone Morrisonn have both cleared waivers earlier today and have been assigned to the Rochester Americans. Now, the question comes up, will both show up? Â Will the explore options oversea’s? Â We’ll find out soon enough. Â Opinions on both are varried, most thinking that Kotalik is a waste. Â He did play well with the Abbotsford Heat last season so assuming he accepts his fate he could be a benefit here as well.
The Amerks opened training camp this morning with the following 20 player roster on the ice:
Forwards: Kyle Bochek, Riley, Boychuk, Jacob Lagace, Maxime Legault, Jonathan Parker, Paul Szczechura, Shawn Szydlowski, Travis Turnbull, Phil Varone, Mark Voakes, and Derek Whitmore
Defense: Alex Biega, TJ Brennan, Nick Crawford, Corey Fienhage, Joe Finley, Matt MacKenzie, and Brayden McNabb
Goalies: Jeff Jakaitis and Dan Ramirez
Dan who?? Â He’s a local that was brought in to practice due to David Leggio is on the roster as well but is sitting out after getting knocked in the noggen by a puck in a Sabres practice. Â Hopefully it’s not a concussion, that’d put a damper on the start of the season in net.
As for the training camp on ice session itself, it was a practice. Â Joe Finley stuck out as a rather large defenseman and at the end Chris Taylor was working with some forwards on taking faceoffs. Â Impossible to really notice anything else of significance.
While the players were on the ice word came that another 10 players were being assigned to the Amerks:
Forwards: Marcus Foligno, Zack Kassian, Jonathan Parker, Michael Ryan, Colin Stuart and Corey Tropp
Defensemen: Brayden McNabb, Dennis Persson and Drew Schiestel
Goaltender: Drew MacIntyre
With those two groups of players the camp roster on paper is at 33 players with everyone above.
MacIntyre will be in Rochester for a couple of practices before he rejoins the Sabres to join them on their European vacation to start the season.
