The Buffalo Sabres today announced the roster for the team’s training camp which includes five players on American League contracts and an invite to Kyle Olson.
Training camp will be held primarily at KeyBank Center, with sessions on Sunday, Sept. 15, Thursday, Sept. 26 and Friday, Sept. 27 open to the public. On ice sessions begin Friday September 13 at KeyBank Center in Buffalo. Players will report Thursday September 12.
Kyle Olson had one of the strongest performances at the Prospects Challenge and it earned him an invite to training camp. He’s the only player on the roster that is without any kind of pro contract. He’ll be a player to keep an eye on that could turn pro if he continues to play well. Olson was drafted in the 4th round (122nd overall) in the 2017 draft by the Anaheim Ducks who have since let his rights expire.
Eric Cornel, Sean Malone, Kevin Porter, Zach Redmond, and Michael Houser are the five players on American League contracts that are on the Sabres training camp roster.
Does that mean they’re going to make the Sabres roster? No. They will all be Rochester Americans. Well, Michael Houser will be with the Cincinnati Cyclones. Inviting veteran players who have already been with the organization to training camp is a great way to keep them in tune with the goals of the season.
Casey Fitzgerald (pictured) will have more eyes on him as well based on how well he played in the Prospects Challenge along with his scrap against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
