Here’s a list of current and previous injuries to players impacting the Rochester Americans season. The status of the players have all been confirmed.

2018 regular season man games lost due to injuries (not counting recovery time in Buffalo): 251
The injury info is accurate but total games lost is a loose estimate based on when a player stopped playing and returned playing. Chris Taylor didn’t have an exact number to provide when asked but said this sounds about right.
2017/2018 injuries:
End of the playoffs:
- Barry Goers – Upper body – indefinite – Left practice early on November 13. Considered week to week. Upper body. Started skating with the team the week of December 4. Cleared on December 8, skated with the team but went back on the injured list. Started skating on his own early February and returned to team practice on February 16 without contact. Skated occasionally with the team.
- Casey Nelson – Upper body – day to day – Played in game 1 of the 2018 playoffs, didn’t play in game 2 or 3. Reported as an upper body injury.
- Justin Bailey – Upper body – was upended with about five minutes left in game three of the playoffs and landed on what appeared to be his left shoulder. Immediately left the game.
Previous Injuries:
- Alexander Nylander – Lower body injury on September 8, 2017 vs the NJ Devils in the prospects challenge game. He skated for the first time with light contact on November 4. He returned to skating with the Amerks on November 13. Returned to playing November 17.
- Evan Rodrigues – Hand injury on September 22, 2017. Rodrigues is expected to spend some time with the Amerks this season but that was derailed when he hurt his hand in a preseason game vs the Toronto Maple Leafs. He returned to practicing with the Amerks on November 14th. Returned to playing November 17.
- Garret Ross – missed the game on November 15th. Returned on November 17.
- Zach Redmond – Played in the first period on November 10, 2017 vs the Belleville Senators but didn’t return. Nothing noticeable in the game, finished a regular shift with a minute left to play in the period. Lower body. Returned November 22.
- Brendan Guhle – Missed the game on November 29, lower body, considered day to day. Returned on December 1. Only missed one game.
- Arvin Atwal – was hit along the boards early in the second period on November 18 and left the game. Started skating November 27 without contact. Cleared on December 8 and returned to the the Cincinnati Cyclones.
- Kevin Porter – Upper body, expected to be out two weeks. Missed practice and the game on November 29. Started skating with the team the week of December 4. Returned to play December 13.
- Nathan Paetsch – Broken leg – expected to return to team practices January 2, 2018 – injured on October 13, 2017 when he blocked a shot and broke his leg. Current status is week to week, is hoping to be back before the end of the year. Started skating on his own December 11. Cleared from the injury report on January 2 and has resumed skating with the team, is working on conditioning and the hope is he returns to playing the weekend of January 12.
- Justin Bailey – Upper body – day to day – returned to the Amerks on November 13 after missing 7 games in Buffalo due to an injury. He took himself out of playing on November 15 as not being ready. Returned to play November 18. Practiced on November 21 but left the ice with a limp but still skated with the team in practice. Returned December 15 and appeared to possibly block a shot with his arm/wrist. Back on the injured list due to that game. Resumed skating with the team the week of January 2nd. Cleared from the injury report on January 11th. Possible to play weekend of January 12.
- Brendan Guhle – Lower body – day to day – was banged up on January 15. Left practice early on January 16. Missed a game January 17, returned January 20.
- Stuary Percy – Lower body – unknown – injured late in the first period on January 26 and didn’t return. Missed the game January 27.
- Linus Ullmark – Upper body – day to day – Hit with a high shot in the left shoulder/collar bone area on Friday February 2 and didn’t make the trip to Binghamton on February 3rd. Practicing week of February 5th, sat out the game on February 7. Missed two games and returned on February 10.
- Andrew MacWilliam – Upper Body – week to week – blocked a shot in Toronto on December 29 off of his hand/wrist late in the first period and didn’t return to the game. Returned to practice on February 6th. Returned on February 11.
- Brendan Guhle – Lower body – unknown – Played January 15, left practice early on January 16. Played January 20 and then missed a game January 21 and hasn’t practiced with the team since. Is not going on the road trip to Toronto and Belleville. Returned on February 11.
- Colin Blackwell – Upper body – day to day – added to the list after the January 10 game vs Belleville. Was out for a shift with 1:14 left in the 3rd, no big hits, no wild shots, just went down away from the play after a puck was deflected and never came back. Returned to skating early February and returned to practice with the team February 13. Returned to playing on February 16.
- Adam Krause – Upper body – 1-2 weeks – Happened at some point during the game on February 17 at Binghamton. Skated with the team the morning of February 23rd. Expected to play February 28.
- Eric Cornel – Shoulder – Week to week – Was hurt at some point in the game against Syracuse on February 21 and missed the third period. Returned to practice in a no contact jersey on March 6. Cleared on March 9.
- Garret Ross – Back – week to week – Started skating on his own the last week of February, still no time frame. Returned to team practice March 9. Returned to play March 15 after missing 19 games.
- CJ Smith – Lower body – 4-6 weeks – Left the game early vs Hershey on February 11 and was watching practice on February 13 with crutches and a boot on his left lower leg. Chris Taylor said that CJ had been playing hurt and it caught up to him. The original hopeful timeline was about 3 weeks. He started skating week of March 5 and is expected back within two weeks which would be the original 4-6 weeks. Returned to team practice March 9. Returned to play March 15 after missing 12 games.
- Seth Griffith (in Buffalo) – Upper body – day to day – was hurt during the Sabres game in March 7. Returned to the Amerks on March 22.
- CJ Smith – Lower body – week to week – Left the game halfway through the second period on March 23rd and left the arena with crutches again. Missed 7 games and returned to the lineup on April 11, 2018.
- Kyle Criscuolo – Upper body / left shoulder – 4 to 6 weeks – was hit against the glass on March 5 while called up in Buffalo and is out 4-6 weeks. The 4-6 week time frame would have him back in Rochester in early April. He returned to the Amerks lineup in a game on April 6 and then sat out the last 4 games of the regular season.
- Sahir Gill – Lower body – Day to day – Missed the last game of the regular season and game 1 of the 2018 playoffs with a boot on his left foot/ankle. Returned to game 2 of the playoffs.
- Justin Danforth – Lower body – week to week – Injury occurred on Friday March 16 in Providence. Was at morning practice with crutches and keeping weight off his right foot/or ankle. Returned to Cincinnati on April 20, 2018 and joined them for game 4 of the ECHL playoffs.
- The Goal Horn – Internal wiring – week to week – stopped working on April 7 when the game was delayed due to electrical problems that stopped some lighting from working. The lights worked, the goal horn didn’t. It returned to action on April 25 in the one and only Amerks home playoff game.
